Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities)  

Who are we? 

The British Embassy in Bucharest is part of the United Kingdom’s world-wide diplomatic network, and represents British political, economic and consular interests in Romania.

The successful candidate's main role will be to provide support for the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) team, mainly on logistics support for upcoming events, market research, translations, drafting text and updating various data bases. They will also have the chance to participate in Embassy-wide activities, collaborate with other departments, and will have access to training and learning opportunities provided by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.

This is a great opportunity to get hands-on experience in an exciting international environment, take part in various events organized by the team, and see how an Embassy runs on a daily basis.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Market research in Energy, Digital technologies, and Infrastructure sectors mainly, but also in other sectors of focus for the DBT team;
  • Draft specific texts and materials drawn from the market research performed, but also for other purposes linked to the DBT team activities and objectives;
  • Responding to Business enquires - Supporting UK companies to grow internationally;
  • Event management - Support the team on organising events and webinars to promote British products and services in the sectors mentioned above, but not only;
  • Stakeholder management - Create and update various databases of British and Romanian companies and stakeholders, with whom DBT team is working;
  • Support for the team to update various corporate platforms;
  • Some overseas travel may be required.


Essential qualifications, skills and experience  

Our ideal candidate shows:

  • Full professional proficiency in Romanian and English (written and spoken, minimum of C1 level for CEFR*);
  • The completion of a bachelor university degree (The successful candidate needs to be able to provide evidence in the form of the original diploma);
  • Availability for full-time employment from March 2026 to February 2027 (12 months);
  • Great drafting and organisational skills; 
  • Good research and analytical skills: ability to gather and assess market data relevant to UK-RO trade relations;
  • Flexibility to work out of office hours if needed (compensated by time off in lieu);
  • Good IT literacy;
  • Interest to develop and seek opportunities by completing tailored training.


Desirable qualifications, skills and experience  

Nice to have:

  • Currently enrolled in a Master’s degree or have recently earned one, preferably in the fields of Economics, Legal, Public Relations, Political Sciences, International Affairs, but not excluding different fields of study;
  • Event planning or stakeholder engagement experience;
  • Prior academic or working experience in an international environment;
  • Awareness of current UK trade priorities.

Other benefits and conditions of employment  

This is a fixed-term internship contract for 12 months. Working hours (35 hours net per week) are as follows: Monday to Thursday 08:30 – 17:00; Friday 8:30 – 13:30 or 11.00 – 16.00. Working hours may be flexible and staff are entitled to time-off-in-lieu for agreed extra hours worked, based on line manager approval.

The annual leave entitlement is 25 days per year pro rata and the Embassy also enjoys a maximum of 14 Romanian / UK public holidays per year. 

The monthly allowance is 4050 RON gross (salary is not negotiable). In addition, staff also receive a monthly subscription to a medical centre. 

The successful candidate will be subject to confirmation of a background check and security clearance, and satisfactory completion of a probationary period of 30 working days.

All applicants should have a pre-existing legal status to live and work in Romania. The British Embassy does not facilitate/sponsor visa applications and work permits. Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy are subject to terms and conditions service according to Romanian employment law.

Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Romania and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract.
