   Are you a coder with an artistic side, or an artist with a keen understanding of technology? Do you enjoy following “making of” movies for various projects, to figure out how special effects are created, how digital lighting works, to understand the workflows used for creating 2D digital art, 3D models and animations? Are you looking for an opportunity to enter the game development industry?

         FUN labs is seeking talented passionate creative and hard working individuals with an active interest in the video games industry to fill Technical Artists positions for upcoming projects.

          FUN labs has been extremely active in the game development industry since, having released numerous titles for PC, Sony PlayStation, PlayStation Portable and PlayStation, Playstation, Microsoft XBOX, Xbox 360 and XBOX One, Nintendo GameCube,Wii and WiiU. Business partners include Activision, Telltale, Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo. FUN labs has developed more than 40 published projects so far, approximately three projects each year, many of them being cross-platform. Currently the company has approximately 40 employees.

Job Title: Technical Artist (Mid level to Advanced)

Reports to: Project Manager/Technical Director

Division/Department: Production Basic Function: bridges the gap between artists and programmers, making sure that the game vision makes its way into the final product with an optimal use of technology. Assists in identifying workflow pitfalls and continuously seeks to improve existing tools and technology. Creates custom tools for production environments like Maya and UE4, creates animation rigs, automates highly repetitive tasks, creates complex special effects. Assist in profiling and game-engine related performance analysis.

Principal Working Relationships: Works with artists, programmers and sound engineers to contribute to the development of the technology, tools and game world.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Constantly monitors current artist workflows for time-sinks or possible improvements.
  • Decide together with artists and programmers on optimal ways to mitigate time-sinks (such as repetitive task automation).
  • Keeps up to date with the technological advancements in the industry.
  • Takes part in scheduled product play test sessions to assess the overall game as well as the level of integration of one’s own work. Provides written feedback on the above issues.
  • Tailors task effort to fit in a clearly allotted time period, making (if necessary) industry-adequate compromises to meet deadlines set by the Project Lead.
  • Informs Project Manager and Technical Director on task progress both verbally and by updating the task status on the internal task tracking software (as soon as the status changes).

Required Qualifications and Abilities:

  • Python scripting
  • Maya general knowledge
  • UE4 and/or Unity knowledge
  • Rigging
  • Regular expressions
  • Basic understanding of real time render challenges

Appreciated skills and experience:

  • Lua scripting
  • Creates particle effects and HLSL shaders
  • The desire to achieve personal excellence in this field and responsibility of the quality of delivered assets.
  • In depth knowledge of a wide variety of games ("Gamer culture"). Alternately, a particularly strong visual culture related to modern media (Television, Cinematography, Graphic Novels) can compensate for an underdeveloped “Gamer culture”.
  • Strong knowledge about real time rendering techniques
