Senior AI & Document Intelligence Engineer

About the Role

We are building the next generation of tax and compliance technology. This role will be responsible for designing and building AI-powered document intelligence, extraction, validation and workflow automation capabilities that form a key part of our future platform.

You will work closely with Product, Operations and Engineering teams to transform manual tax and compliance processes into intelligent, scalable services.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop AI-powered backend services using Python and FastAPI.
• Build document ingestion, OCR and extraction pipelines.
• Develop structured data extraction and validation workflows for tax and compliance documents.
• Integrate with OpenAI, AWS Bedrock and other AI services.
• Design confidence scoring, human review and exception handling workflows.
• Build reusable APIs consumed by our existing PHP platform.
• Create auditability, monitoring and traceability for AI-driven decisions.
• Collaborate with Product Owners and domain experts to translate business processes into intelligent workflows.

Required Skills

• 5+ years backend software development experience.
• Strong Python development experience.
• FastAPI or similar modern API frameworks.
• PostgreSQL and SQL database design.
• Experience integrating OpenAI, AWS Bedrock or similar LLM platforms.
• OCR and document extraction experience using tools such as AWS Textract, Azure Document Intelligence, Google Document AI or similar.
• Experience with structured outputs, prompt engineering and confidence scoring.
• Docker and cloud deployment experience.
• Strong English communication skills.

Desirable Skills

• LlamaIndex, LangGraph, LangChain or similar frameworks.
• Experience with VAT, finance, compliance, accounting or regulatory technology.
• Vector databases and semantic search.
• Event-driven architectures and workflow orchestration tools.
• AWS experience.
