We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join our innovative and dynamic team. You would be joining a team of 4-6 other highly skilled mechanical design engineers.

Key Responsibilities

• Design bespoke factory machinery, pipework systems, and process systems with a focus on functionality and efficiency.
• Use SolidWorks to develop, modify, and optimize designs, applying Design for Manufacture principles to ensure components can be easily sourced, while minimizing material waste and unnecessary manufacturing steps.
• Specify electromechanical parts such as motors, actuators, hydraulics/pneumatics, transmissions, bearings and guides, seals, etc.
• Where applicable, design and specify pipework runs, supports, valves, fittings and instrumentation in line with relevant standards.
• Create detailed Bills of Materials (BOMs), specifying components down to URLs or supplier quotes.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to define project requirements and constraints, while ensuring designs comply with relevant standards and regulations.
• Provide regular progress updates to project managers and stakeholders, addressing potential issues proactively.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• At least 2 years of experience using SolidWorks and 5 years of overall experience in mechanical design.
• Strong understanding of materials and electromechanical components.
• Familiarity with manufacturing methods such as milling, turning, sheet metal working, and fabrication processes like welding or assembly.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills (both written and verbal).
• Ability to work independently and thrive in a remote working environment is essential.
• Experience in pipework design (process pipework, industrial systems, or similar) is a strong preference. Familiarity with relevant pipework standards, isometric drawings, P&IDs and pipe stress considerations would be highly advantageous.
• Experience working with UK suppliers and familiarity with the UK market for materials and components is a significant advantage.

Compensation & Hours

This is a self-employed position where payment is based on work requested and completed. You will invoice monthly for the hours worked (e.g. as PFA), which can be up to 30 hours per week typically — occasionally more is possible. Compensation will be of around 24 EUR/hour gross, depending on experience and efficiency. The volume of work may fluctuate throughout the year, making this role perfect for someone adaptable and seeking genuinely flexible work hours. Assuming an average of 30hrs/week and a 46 week work year that'd average to 2,760 EUR gross/month over a 12 month period (approximately 1,870 EUR net/month as PFA, depending on individual circumstances). Payment would be from a UK Ltd company for tax estimation purposes.

It is the responsibility of the candidate to ensure they have an appropriate work from home setup. While a basic laptop may suffice for short-term tasks, it will not be adequate for high-volume work. A larger external screen (24-inch or more) and a decent place to work from is required for most of the work. Additionally, a stable internet connection with low latency is essential to ensure smooth access via RustDesk Console remote desktop software.
