Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer – R&D
Main duties and responsibilties
Support new product development projects from product definition and planning through production and release:
Promotes investigation and application of new technologies and industry trends to product management activities.
Manage the new product implementation process from design phase to mass production.
Support the Mechanical Design Team during product design phase by supplying comments and assisting with design reviews and production of all necessary documentation. This will include reviews of 3D CAD designs, 2D Drawings, prototypes and any written specifications, ensuring that manufacturability, cost & reliability are all taken into consideration
Where new Tooling or modifications are required, be involved with the Part Suppliers and/or Toolmakers, work with other departments like Purchasing to obtain quotes for both Part & any necessary Tooling and then assist with the Approval Process. This will involve close communication with all parties involved.
Work with others within R&D to investigate possible new ways of producing Mechanical Designs, modelling samples, and evaluating new materials, with a view to reducing development timescales, and/or costs of products
Mechanical engineering degree
Proven ability within a similar Electro-Mechanical Design and Manufacturing Industry, with good knowledge particularly of Plastic Moulding Processes and Mould Design/Construction. Knowledge of Engineering Thermo-Plastics would be an advantage.
Computer literacy, particularly a working knowledge of Mech. CAD Software (ideally PRO-E/Creo), is essential.
Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point & Project Management would be an advantage.
Proven ability to effectively plan projects and implement these on time to the required quality standards, would be an advantage.
Ability to diagnose and solve problems by using a methodical thought process, to arrive at a "Right First Time" solution
Fluency in English
