BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION:
The Radio and Telephone Technician ensures the proper maintenance and technical operation of all telephone and radio systems at American Embassy Bucharest. This includes maintaining and repairing the embassy's PBX and IP phone systems, as well as desk telephones. The incumbent installs and troubleshoots fiber optic data lines for the 20+ telecom Internet and enterprise network circuits coming into the Embassy. Installs, maintains, and repairs the Embassy's handheld radios, radio base stations, and radio repeaters. Ensures that telephone lines are operational at more than 100 residences. Manages the AFN installation program at the Embassy and residences.
Two years of specialized technical experience installing and troubleshooting radio, telephone or telecommunications circuits.
Completion of high school and completion of a basic radio training course are both required.
Good working knowledge in English and Fluent Romanian. Must have reading and speaking proficiency in both English and Romanian, in order to communicate with Embassy personnel and Romanian service providers, and to understand technical documentation written in either language.
