School Counsellor & SENCo

Job Summary

The School Counsellor & SENCo provides professional counseling, wellbeing support, and special educational needs provision to promote students' emotional, social, and academic development. This hybrid role supports students in managing personal challenges and making informed educational decisions while leading the school’s Special Educational Needs (SEN) strategy. The successful candidate will design tailored interventions, empower classroom teachers, and oversee inclusion practices to ensure a safe, supportive, and highly inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and group counseling to support student wellbeing
  • Support students with emotional, social, behavioural, and academic challenges
  • Deliver short-term, solution-focused interventions and coping strategies
  • Conduct basic assessments and develop student support plans
  • Support academic guidance, subject selection, and career planning
  • Collaborate with teachers, leadership, and parents on student support
  • Maintain records, reports, and confidentiality standards

SENCo Leadership & Classroom Support

  • Support classroom teachers in addressing and accommodating diverse educational needs within daily lessons.
  • Deliver shadow training and monitoring for Learning Support Assistants and shadow teachers to ensure effective, cohesive classroom assistance.
  • Create and review IEPs and ILPs (Individual Education Plans / Individual Learning Plans) using quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Conduct basic learning assessments and screen for learning differences to identify students requiring early academic intervention

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Special Education, Counselling, or related field (required)
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working with children or adolescents
  • Strong communication, empathy, and interpersonal skills
  • Experience in counselling or educational settings
  • Ability to manage cases, maintain confidentiality, and work independently
  • Fluent in English
