IT Support Analyst job purpose
The Mission requires a motivated individual with extremely strong hands-on technical skills who can provide support and technical assistance to staff who are using software, hardware or other computer systems and need help completing tasks or troubleshooting problems. An important focus will be on issues related to SQL and databases, whether by application or reporting.
The successful candidate will be expected to provide support and technical assistance not only to end user staff who are using software, hardware or other computer systems, but also advice to other IT staff. They may also end up working on projects with non-IT colleagues providing technical advice and assistance.
The successful candidate should be able to work on their own initiative and have good analytical skills.
IT Support Analyst job duties
This will be an interesting and varied role, with opportunities for learning new skills.
Responding to queries via tickets, instant messenger, email, or phone
Providing technical assistance for users’ questions and problems
Assisting and training other IT staff on troubleshooting and diagnosing problems
Resolving problems with applications and computer systems, and subsequent documenting
Creating and testing database reports as required
Following up with customers to ensure full resolution of issues
Requesting feedback and/or monitoring calls and other methods of correspondence to improve training methods
Running reports to analyse common complaints and problems
Installing or changing software to fix issues
Remotely accessing hardware or software to make changes and fix problems for staff
Working with other staff towards the aims of the Mission
Documenting changes to provide a useful record
Patching and updating systems out of core hours as necessary (usually monthly)
Escalating issues as necessary to more senior staff or the International IT Director
IT Support Analyst skills
Strong computer skills; familiarity with Windows 10 as well as common Windows software
SQL queries (SQL Server dialect), SQL Server Reporting Services, T-SQL programming
Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose problems
Investigation and correction of data stored in databases, and the subsequent documentation
Writing and editing skills to document solutions
Willingness to learn new skills with the ability to learn quickly
Good customer service skills, including the ability to communicate effectively and politely with staff, whose first language may not always be English
English language, verbal and written
Responsibility for own actions
Ability to remain focussed while working remotely and largely unsupervised
Windows 10 and Windows Server remote access tools (Remote Desktop, Quick Assist)
Familiarity with Windows 10 as well as common Windows software
Familiarity with Microsoft 365 administration (Azure, Exchange, Sharepoint)
Familiarity with Windows Server administration (Active Directory, GPOs)
Familiarity with SQL and databases, with an emphasis on SQL Server (T-SQL, Stored procedures)
Understanding of networking infrastructure, firewalls, routing, VPNs, email
Awareness of Computer Security
Awareness of relevant legal frameworks (Copyright, GDPR)
