Head of CSB Swimming Program is expected to work together with PE teachers and School Leadership to ensure high standards of teaching and learning practices and processes.
This post requires someone with dynamism and leadership qualities who will contribute effectively to the ongoing development and management of Cambridge School of Bucharest in keeping with its aims, objectives, and ethos. It requires a person of proven academic, managerial, and administrative ability with well-developed interpersonal skills. A strong commitment to child-centred education is also required. Other beneficial attributes to the role are passionate swimmer, lead swim programs previously including child swim teaching experience. They should be a qualified lifeguard and preferably a lifeguard trainer, have experience in pool maintenance, organised and ran swim meets including experience with Meet Manager or similar swim meet programs, can manage pool safety and certifications and have experience supervising lifeguards.
Job Purpose
To instill a love of water and swimming in all students at CSB while teaching them the value of healthy lifestyles.
To ensure that all Child Protection and Safeguarding Children policies and procedures are always adhered to and that any suspected or confirmed deviation from these polices is reported according to the provided procedure.
To carry out the professional duties of a swimming teacher as circumstances may require and in accordance with the school's policies under the direction and with the support of the Head of PE, Club Manager, Head of School and the Deputy Director.
To be an effective professional who demonstrates thorough curriculum knowledge, can teach and assess effectively, take responsibility for professional development and has students who achieve well.

Duties and Responsibilities
· develop and implement policies for the swimming pool area in line with the School’s commitment to high-quality teaching and learning;

· promote swimming in the school community, its importance, and the value that it brings across the School;
· have a competent understanding of how well the subject is being delivered and the impact it has on pupil engagement;
· use this understanding to feed into the School Development Plan;
· promote pupils’ spiritual, moral, social, cultural, physical, and mental development alongside Fundamental British Values in the teaching of the subject;
· consult pupils and staff about the subject and its effectiveness, and assess the feedback against the School’s values, visions, and aims;
· work with the special educational needs co-ordinator (SENCO) to ensure the curriculum matches the needs of SEND pupils;
· ensure that the curriculum is differentiated to stretch and challenge the more able;
· promote careers education through the subject and ensure that teaching and learning illustrates how the subject might lead to career opportunities;
· liaise with the Heads of School to support the transition between schools/Key Stages;
· liaise with the Head of School on subject-related events, projects, and activities;
· keep up to date and pro-active with changes in the curriculum and developments in best practice;
· monitor and lead school swim squads before and after school;
· lead in-set training and department training sessions when required.
Leading the Curriculum
· develop and review regularly the vision, aims, and purpose for the subject area;
· oversee the planning of curriculum content, ensuring it is well sequenced to promote pupil progress;
· ensure the planned curriculum is effectively and consistently implemented across the School;
Leading and Managing Staff
· establish an effective team and hold regular meetings to keep staff informed on any developments or changes;
· provide support to PE staff regarding teaching and learning, resources, and planning in the subject area;
· Talking with pupils to assess how well the subject area is being implemented and how well it is delivered across the School;
· provide feedback to staff based on the above observations to identify training needs and provide continuing professional development (CPD);
· liaise effectively with Cambridge Exams Officer to ensure that teachers understand and are familiar with the syllabuses that are being delivered and are aware of any pending changes or updates to those syllabuses;
· support the staff that you manage with the implementation of the School’s Behaviour Policy;
· take responsibility for performance management for your team, appraising staff in line with the school’s appraisal policy;
· ensure that, excepting Modern Languages, English is the language of instruction and of teachers’ own interactions with students both in and out of class;
· organise swim squads to allow excellence and also development and progresssion for students;
· organise and host swim meets with local and international schools;
· make sure there is an effective system of assessment that oversees the progress of pupils to ensure the curriculum has a positive impact on pupils’ learning;
· have an overarching responsibility for pupils’ achievement and standards in the subject area;
· take advantage of appropriate cross-curricular opportunities, and reinforce age-appropriate PSCHEE and SMSC concepts and elements in your subject area;
· audit, check, and manage Curriculum Maps and Schemes of Work ensure they are up to date with the National Curriculum and match pupil and School needs;
· monitor display boards/areas that are relevant to your subjects. Maintain high quality displays and ensuring the inclusion of relevant student work.
