Job Description The Department of English and Humanities at Birkbeck, University of London invites applications for a newly created post of Lecturer in Theatre and Performance. Theatre and performance teaching and research at Birkbeck take place within the Department of English and Humanities. We deliver several thriving undergraduate and postgraduate programmes - BA Theatre & Drama, BA Theatre Studies and English, MA Text and Performance (with RADA) and the MFA Theatre Directing. Birkbeck Centre for Contemporary Theatre hosts numerous research activities and public engagement events through the academic year, including collaborations with academics across the university, arts institutions and our artist Fellows. Candidate Requirements You will be involved in our lively research community and will make a full contribution to the department's international research profile via the Centre for Contemporary Theatre. You will work with the theatre and performance studies team to contribute to the delivery and extension of existing programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. You will be able to demonstrate a commitment to the development of innovative approaches to teaching, both in the seminar room and in the rehearsal room, as well as undertaking appropriate administrative duties. Ideally, you should have a PhD in a relevant subject area (or have recently submitted your PhD for examination), and show evidence of published research, professional practice, or exceptional research potential. Teaching experience at postgraduate degree level is desirable. While we welcome strong applicants in any area, we would particularly welcome applicants with research strengths in: Candidates will be expected to be able to teach across our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. This post is full time, 35 hours per week ( FTE) and open-ended. The salary quoted above is on the College's London Pay Scale and includes a consolidated Weighting/Allowance which applies only to staff whose normal contractual place of work is in the Greater London area. The initial salary will be dependent on the skills and experience of the successful applicant. The appointment is subject to a probationary period of 3 years.
